Old School. Untamed.
Smoked tea is not for everyone. That is the point. Our Lapsang Souchong is traditionally smoked over pinewood fires in Fujian, China using methods that predate trends, influencers and anything described as “smooth with hints of…”
Nature. Approved.
It smells like a forest. It tastes like a campfire. It lingers like a good story.

What Makes Smoked Tea Special?
It is not about shortcuts or flavouring. It is about time, wood and intention.
Step 1
Traditional
Smoking
Our tea is naturally smoked over real pinewood fires using time-honoured Fujian techniques. The leaves slowly absorb aromatic wood smoke, building depth and character that cannot be replicated with artificial flavouring. This is smoke earned, not added.
Step 2
Unique
Flavour Profile
Pinewood smoke transforms the tea from ordinary to unforgettable. Expect bold campfire notes balanced with smooth malt, oak and subtle sweetness beneath the smoke. Powerful, layered and deeply satisfying.
Step 3
Aromatic
Experience
Before you taste it, you smell it. Each brew releases an aroma reminiscent of a crackling fire, ancient forests and cool mountain air. The scent alone tells you this is not everyday tea.
Step 4
For
the Bold Palate
Smoked tea is an acquired taste and proudly so. This is for those who seek depth, character and something that stands apart from the ordinary. If you love flavour with backbone, you are in the right place.

From the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian, China
Our Lapsang Souchong is crafted in Xingcun village in the Wuyi Mountains, the birthplace of smoked black tea. Grown at elevations between 3,500 and 5,000 feet above sea level, the tea develops in cool mist, mountain air and pine-covered terrain. These conditions give it natural smoothness and subtle sweetness beneath the smoke. Hand-harvested and processed by generational tea makers, this is tea with heritage and intent.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers. No smoke and mirrors.
What does Lapsang Souchong taste like?
Expect bold pinewood smoke balanced with smooth malt, oak and subtle resinous sweetness. Despite its smoky aroma, the tea is smooth and full-bodied with no bitterness when brewed correctly.
How should I brew it?
Use 1 teaspoon of loose leaf per cup. Add freshly boiled water at 95-100°C. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes depending on strength preference. Enjoy it black for full intensity or add a splash of milk. It also works surprisingly well iced.
Is this tea flavoured?
No. Our Lapsang Souchong is naturally smoked over real pinewood fires using traditional Fujian methods. There are no added flavourings, oils or smoke essences.
Where is the tea from?
The tea is grown and crafted in Xingcun village in the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian, China, the historic birthplace of Lapsang Souchong.
Is it bitter?
No. Despite its bold smoky character, this tea is naturally smooth with a rounded mouthfeel and low tannins when brewed as recommended.
How fresh is the tea?
After crafting in China, our tea is hand-packed in the UK in small batches. We use foil-lined, resealable packaging to protect freshness, aroma and flavour.
How much caffeine does it contain?
As a black tea, it contains a moderate amount of caffeine 27-35mg per cup. Generally less than coffee but enough to provide a steady lift.
Can I add milk?
Yes. While many drink it black, a small splash of milk softens the smoke and brings out malt and oak notes. It is a personal preference.
What does it pair well with?
This tea pairs well with BBQ, smoked foods, sharp cheeses, dark chocolate and quiet moments.
Is smoked tea for everyone?
No. Smoked tea is an acquired taste. If you love bold flavours, depth and character, you will likely love it. If you prefer light, floral teas, this may not be your style.
How should I store the tea?
Keep it sealed in its original pouch, away from light, heat and strong odours. Properly stored, it will retain flavour and aroma for many months.
Will you release more teas?
Yes. Timber Smoke Tea Co. is built around smoked teas and bold blends. Limited releases and future drops are planned.
